After 25 years at 1131 Howe Street, our organization — one of North America’s most active film institutes — has outgrown its cramped, aging facility, and lacks sufficient space to properly house the West Coast Film Archive, Film Reference Library, and especially our award-winning youth education programs.
At this moment, an extraordinary opportunity exists to provide a new home for Pacific Cinémathèque in a state-of-the-art film institute, media education centre and cultural venue within the proposed TELUS Garden development in downtown Vancouver. For more information, read our case for support and brief of programs and resources.
This past year, the Education Department worked with over 5,000 students across British Columbia, and moving to the TELUS Garden would allow for unprecedented media literacy and media production opportunities, not only for Lower Mainland students, but for youth and educators across the province and in remote communities. We would greatly appreciate your support for this initiative, as Education Department supporters.
Support our Campaign!
An on-line petition has been created where members of the public can add their name in support of Pacific Cinémathèque as the occupant of a Cultural Amenity space within the TELUS Garden development. A paper petition can also be signed at Pacific Cinémathèque on screening nights. The results of the campaign will be submitted to Mayor Gregor Robertson, City Council and the City of Vancouver.
