Building community in a school can be challenging, even for the most experienced educators. Our mentorship training programs develop technical, leadership and interpersonal skills — and they’re fun to boot!
Jump Cuts: This program combines digital video production experience, team-building skills, and youth mentorship training in a hands-on, engaging, and intensive program. Secondary school youth work in teams to create short videos, participate in mentorship training, and then mentor the production of short videos with a group of Grade 7 students from a feeder school. Not only do students learn social responsibility during the project, they also create videos which explore social issues relevant to their school and their community. Participants gain concrete professional and life skills in perseverance, teamwork, and creative problem solving.
Work Experience Programs: Challenging, exciting, and engaging, school districts and participating work experience youth can take advantage of Pacific Cinémathèque’s unique work experience opportunities. Youth have assisted in video production, technical support, or peer mentorship, and have the opportunity to gain valuable life skills while gaining experience in media production. Custom programs can also be designed for schools or community centers to partner student leaders with at-risk youth, training with filmmakers to make short videos.
